Concrete Wave: Buyer's Guide Cover

So it's been a long time since I've updated. Due to the need for paying gigs, my skate sculptures have been on the back burner for a while. Even this one was done some time ago and I just haven't found the time to update accordingly.
Through a bit of networking I got in touch with Mike Brook at Concrete Wave. He commissioned me to create a sculpture for the cover of his 2011 buyer's guide. Needless to say it was a great opportunity. He wanted me to depict a skater riding a 'concrete wave'. As you can see, I took that extremely literally.
I realize alot of you guys that drop in on this blog don't do much long boarding and I'm sure the helmet kills it for a lot of you, but this was a commission piece so I had some pre-requisites to follow. Anyway, thanks for taking a look.

Surfing the Concrete Wave

This one doesn't focus on a particular personality. I was going more for the embodiment of old-school skateboarding. Think Alva, Adams etc...

Dave Hackett; Over the death box!

This is still in the early stages. The photo of Hackett was taken by Glen Friedman. It remains as one of the most iconic images in skateboarding history. I'm trying to do it justice. Hopefully I'll be wrapping it up at the end of the December.

Ok... updates... This sculpture has been a blast to work on. Of course it's been challenging but in a fun way. Usually by the time I get to this point in a project, I'm just going through the motions, trying to wrap it up. But this one; I'm really enjoying the whole thing. I'm sure it's the composition of the photo. But sculpting all that anatomy in a cool baroque looking pose... it's artistic bliss. Thanks Mr. Friedman!! Should have it wrapped up soon!! Thanks for checking in.

Further updates. Really close to being finished. I made my molds and pulled the first casting. I'm currently painting it.

Eric Koston

If you search 'backside noseblunt' this is one of the first pics that comes up. Oozing style on the Hubba ledge. I still have a ways to go with this one but it's getting there slowly. Thanks for checking in.

The Gonz

Mark Gonzales. Dude is the best. End of story. (I'm not totally satisfied with the portrait I sculpted for this and I am currently re-working it.)
